Every piece of Zuzia's Polish Pottery begins as a lump of raw stoneware clay in the hands of a skilled artisan in Bolesławiec, Poland — a town whose pottery tradition stretches back over 700 years. What leaves our workshop is not simply a bowl or a mug. It is a singular work of art, signed by the hands that made it.

What Is UNIKAT?

UNIKAT — Polish for one of a kind — is the highest designation in Polish pottery. Each UNIKAT piece is entirely hand-painted by a single artist. No two pieces are ever identical. When you turn a UNIKAT piece over, you will find the artist's personal signature fired into the clay — a mark of authorship and pride that connects you directly to the person who created it.

This is not mass production. It is a living craft.

The Material & The Making

Our pottery is crafted from Bolesławiec stoneware — a dense, high-fired clay prized for its durability and its ability to hold the vivid, mineral-based glazes that give Polish pottery its unmistakable depth of color. Each piece is fired at temperatures exceeding 2200°F, making it dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven safe, and built to last generations.

The painting process is painstaking and unhurried. Artists work with fine brushes and traditional sponge stamps, layering intricate patterns — peacock eyes, botanical motifs, geometric borders — that have been passed down through families and refined over lifetimes. A single complex UNIKAT piece can take an artist an entire day to complete.
